The first anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks was our first full day at the Rex Hotel in Saigon. The next morning we watched Walter Cronkite being interviewed on CNN. He talked about how much more controlled and restricted the U.S. press has been in the Gulf War and Afghanistan war than in previous wars. He said that he was surprised at how few journalists were speaking out against these unprecedented restrictions.
In the evening Mom and I sat in a covered area near the rooftop bar. Monsoon rain soaked the outdoor tables and dusk came slowly, low clouds reflecting the city lights below.
It was a hassle to haul a heavy 10-pound tripod along on this trip, but I never would have got shots like this without it. This was a long exposure and the wind was gusting, but the shot turned out pretty clear due to the stable tripod.
