The smoky haze of brush fires hangs in the air while we float down the Terai River through Royal Chitwan National Park in a small wooden boat. These fires are set illegally by people from nearby villages. They sneak into the park and set a fire, then come back two weeks later to harvest the tender greens that spring up in the freshly burned areas.

Other photos from Royal Chitwan National Park: rhinoceros, Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge, monkeys, elephant bathing.
