Melba in the kitchen shortly after electrical power was restored (Wednesday 9/7, after nearly 10 days without power). Melba's house weathered the storm very well: it was sturdy enough to avoid major wind damage, and far enough away from the ocean to avoid any water damage from the storm surge.
Many people stayed with Melba after the hurricane. When we arrived on September 3, there were 7 of us staying there: Melba, Granny, Gloria, Marsha, Jamal, Megan, and Doug.
