02/03/06: Doug & Megan Get Burgled

Megan had a rough day.

First she had a neighbor's unattended car smash into her Honda while she was having a cup of coffee before work. Scott had it warming up in his driveway and forgot to set the brake, so it rolled down the driveway and smashed into Megan's car.

No big deal, he has insurance, everything's cool. So Megan drives to work in Redmond, with the car making scraping noises on turns.

Then, just a couple of hours later, ADT called to tell her the burglar alarm at home had gone off. Should they report it to the police? Thinking that the cats probably had set off the motion detector somehow (Fish and Ike can get pretty acrobatic sometimes), she decided to err on the side of caution anyway and had ADT call the police while she headed for home.

When Megan got there, she found a bicycle out front. The house looked normal, although there weren't the usual cats sitting in the window. Then she saw Fish sitting on the fence outside, and knew that somebody had broken in.

Megan waited with her new friends Scott and Ellen, while Doug drove home from Redmond. An hour or so later, Megan talked to neighbor Linda, who had first spotted the bicycle in the street with a can of loose change. The change was from Megan's office at home, and the bicycle was apparently abandoned by the thief.

At this point, nobody knew for sure whether the burglar was still in the house.
