We walked through the crowded Central Market of Phnom Penh (Psar Thmei) on a humid afternoon in monsoon season. A small boy with a paper fan latched on to me when we arrived, and followed us the whole time, fanning madly to try to keep me cool and thereby earn a tip.
A Khmer woman holding a naked baby approached in silence, simply staring at me with a blank expression. Did she want something? Was she just curious? I snapped a picture, and even the camera's bright flash didn't change her expression.
The fan boy and his friends, making fun of my earring.
