At Banteay Srei temple during the hot dry month of March 1999, this boy and puppy sat in the shade inside the entrance and ignored the tourists walking past. Other kids his age, with postcards and souvenirs for sale, pestered tourists throughout the temple.
When we returned three years later (2002) in the wet month of September, the interior of the temple was off-limits to the local kids. They all stayed outside the entrance and conducted their business there.
